High delegation jets off to Baladweyne amid fighting reignited

A delegation led by Gamudug leader Abdikarin Hussein Guled which included ministers for internal, younth and sports, petroleum and several federal MPs, has jetted off to Baladwey amid fighting renewed in the town.

The purpose of the visit by the delegation is to resolve the armed conflict in Baladweyne..

Over the last twenty fours the situation in Galkayo was much more stable than with it witnessed over the days prior. Present in Galkayo before of the arrival of the Prime Misters’ delegation were the Federal Interior Mister Abdirahman Odawa and the Chief of the Armed Forces Lt. General Mohamed Aden Ahmed. Both dignitaries held separate side meeting with both sides involved in the conflict.

At least 12 people were killed and more than thirty people injured since a fierce fighting between two clan militias broke out in Baladweyne town.

The African Union peacekeeping force especially the Djiboutian contingent tried to intervene to end the conflict, but reportedly lost one soldier in their attempt to calm the situation.
