Hiraan and Middle Shabelle state formation delay raises concern

Traditional elders, politicians in Hiraan are expressing concern over the delayed appointment of the technical committee of state formation conference for Hiraan and Middle Shabelle

Somali government earlier last month declared it would commence the state formation conference  for Middle Shabelle and Hiraan regions.

The state formation process was set to start in the first week of September and run through December which will culminate into the election of the state president but  plans to commence the conference has been postponed.

At a conference held in Mogadishu earlier last month, the Stakeholders signed Middle Shabelle and Hiraan regions’ state formation process roadmap which was planned to pave the way for reconciliation conference for the clans in the region.

Somali government has yet to announce the technical committee which will guide and lay the roadmap of the conference.

Meanwhile Elders and clan chiefs of Hiiran region have once again called on State conference organizers and Somali Federal government to designate Baladweyne as the official host city of Hiran and Middle Shabelle state conference that is due to start soon.

On last Saturday a prominent number of the region’s elders had a meeting in Baladweyne which they discussed on the issues.

Middle Shabelle and Hiiran state will be the second to be formed this year after the conclusion of the Adado Conference in July which saw the creation of Galmudug State.
