HIRSHABELLE ELECTIONS: Two candidates battle for presidency in ongoing poll

Presidential elections in HirShabelle state are currently underway with two contenders battling it out to lead the nascent state for the next four years.

Vice President Ali Guudlaawe is contesting with Abdirahman Jimaale Osman for the top seat which fell vacant following the end of term for the former administration. Guudlaawe is a favourite of the Federal Government and  is expected to win the race.

Abdi Waare who took over office in 2018 after then-president Ali Osoble was kicked out in a no-confidence motion resigned last week citing difference with the Federal Government over the presidential poll.

Yusuf Dabageed who has served variously as Hiiraan regional governor is contesting for the vice president position alongside Mohamed Mohamud Abdulle.

Elections are taking place in Jowhar town.
