Historic visit as President joins hundreds in Eid celebrations at Liddo Beach

In unprecedented show of confidence on the city’s improved security situation, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday joined hundreds of Somali’s in Mogadishu’s famous Liddo beach for an afternoon outing as part of the Eid celebrations.

The president waved to excited crowds who had thronged the beach with family members and friends to enjoy the Indian Ocean waters stretching along the sandy beach.

Liddo beach, located a stone throw away from the Mogadishu Business District was two years ago a no go zone since the militant group Al-Shabaab had set it as its base before it was flushed out in a joint Somali National Army and African Union Mission in Somalia, AMISOM offensive.
