Hundreds of families in desperate conditions as river River burst its banks in Hawadley

Storyline:National News

Hundreds of families in Hawadley who are living near River Shabelle are in urgent need of food, shelter, clean drinking water and medical services after the river burst its banks.

More than five hundred families have been affected by flooding during the past weeks in most parts of Bal’ad district from the heavy rains.

Hectares of farmland that would have produced this year’s crops were also destroyed according to sources in the district.

The locals express fear that waterborne diseases might spread in the affected areas if immediate action by the administration is not taken.

Additionally the floods of river Shabelle rendered transportation within and outside the town difficult as water cut the main roads.

Bal’ad deputy district commissioner, Jaaale Mahaas Jimbaale  asked the government to intervene quickly to help the residents. Jimbaar  said those affected should be assisted as they lost all their property in the disaster.
