IGAD Accused of Fueling Somalia’s Internal Conflicts

Somali parliamentarian has criticized the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) for suffering from conflict of interest and called on the regional mediation body to exercise impartiality in Bakool internal conflict.

Adan Mohamed Noor Saransoor has accused IGAD of facilitating and promoting personal interests of ill-mannered MPs who are dividing the Bakool region.

“The formation of the so called Upper Bakool is what has come out of the IGAD efforts” he said.

Saransoor said IGAD has no heart in bring peace to Somalia but rather wants to Somalia to remain a war tone country.

Traditional elders and politicians, who were dissatisfied with the selection of southwest MPs, declared new regional state last year.

After  intense meeting in Eelbarde town, delegates declared new regional state named Upper Bakool state with president and his deputy.

Ahmed Sheikh Mohamed was announced to be the first president of state as his deputy president will be Abdullahi Sahal Hussein.
