A Lower House sitting set for today in which immediate former Speaker Mohamed Jawari was to deliver his resignation speech to the House was cancelled the last minute despite MPs receiving notifications Tuesday evening for today sitting.

A text message from first deputy speaker Abdiweli Mudey who battled for the removal of Jawari sent to MPs at around 10pm Tuesday informed the lawmakers the meeting had been cancelled. The circumstances under which the sitting was cancelled remain unclear.

Jawari had, during a joint media conference with President Mohamed Farmaajo yesterday afternoon said he would be addressing the lawmakers from the Speaker’s seat for the last time today. Jawari said he chose to resign following ‘advice from people’.

“I considered the advice from people and took one word which is “one of us has to give up” and that is the decision I made and tomorrow which is 11th  of April I will be back to Parliament for the resignation.” He added he would however continue with his legislative roles as an MP.
