Kenya names 9 terror financiers, orders funds, property freeze

Kenya has ordered the freeze of assets of nine individuals it said fund and support terrorism in the country.

Unveiling the list of the nine individuals Wednesday, Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i said the way to defeat terrorism is to deny them financial support.

“I order the freezing of funds and property of the following individuals and entities,” Matiangi said.

The nine individuals are Halima Ali, Waleed Zein, Sheikh Boru,Mohammed Ali, Nuseiba Haji, Abdimajit Hassan, Mohammed Ali Abdi, Muktar Ali and Mire Elmi.

“Terrorism knows no bounds. We shall neither surrender into the hands of terrorism nor play into the narrative propounded by terrorists,” he said.

“The only way to deny terrorists the means to threaten our way of life is to choke their facilitation networks.”

Kenya has suffered the brunt of Al-Shabaab terrorism in the past with several attacks including in the capital Nairobi.
