President Uhuru Kenyatta gave North Eastern leaders 14 days to come up with a suitable solution on security challenges in the region that has affected various activities including education.
Members of the Kenyan president met includes Wajir City Mayor Mohamed Abdi, Mandera Governor Ali Roba, Garissa Governor Ali Korane and Kenya’s parliamentary leader Aden Bare Duale discussed the general security situation in the Northeast region and attacks carried out by al-Shabab militant.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered Northeastern Somali leaders to resolve within 14-day about these attacks carried out by al-Shabab militia in the region.
The Kenyan president also declared during the meeting that it was never permissible to continue al-Shabaab attacks in Kenya, especially in the Northeast. The leaders also agreed to implement the security protocols they agreed upon during the meeting within the deadline.
However, the president’s meeting with the political leaders in the North Eastern Province comes at a time when al-Shabaab has increased attacks in the Northeast in recent months.
