President Uhuru Kenyatta has been sworn in for the second and last term as president of Kenya in a ceremony attended by several heads of states and governments in the country’s capital Nairobi.

President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto took the oaths of office at noon marking the official start of their five year term even as the opposition declared they could not recognise them as leaders of the East Africa country.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga told the BBC Monday his faction does recognise the election of the two. “I would actually call it a coronation rather than an inauguration because we don’t’ believe that he is legitimately elected as the leader of Kenya,” Odinga said.

Meanwhile police have been involved in run-ins with the opposition in Embakasi area in Nairobi as they prevented opposition supporters from accessing the venue of the meeting they were to hold a parallel rally.
