Kenyan Ambassador presents his credentials to Somali president

Somali president has received credential from the newly appointed Kenya ambassador to Somalia Maj General (Rtd) Lucas Kyonze Tumbo.

The president said that the two nations have historic relations and they should work together to form friendly atmosphere, good neighborhood. “Somali diplomatic policy is based on collaboration and relations to have with its neighbors”.

“Thousands of Somalis are living in Kenya as traders or refugees and that indicates the interdependence of people of the two nations” he said.

The new ambassador said that Somalia and Kenya had enjoyed historically very warm friendly, civilization and cultural affinity in the past, adding that it’s a step forward to restore the relations of the two nations.

This comes less two months after Somali government filed 150-page court filing on Somalia’s maritime border dispute with Kenya at the International Court of Justice at The Hague.

This portion of the sea stretches for more than 100,000 sq km is reportedly rich in gas and petroleum deposits.

The two countries are also at odds over Kenya’s plan to construct border wall at the Kenya-Somalia border.

Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta has yet to follow suit and Somalia’s new ambassidor Jamal Mohamed is waiting his important appointment in Kenya’s state house.
