Kenyan Fighter Jets Bombard Areas In Gedo

Reports from Gedo region state that Kenyan warplane conducted airstrike on several areas near Bardhere on Sunday.

Among the areas Bombarded are Daar Moalim and Abdi-Affey villages located in the outskirts of Bardere, in Gedo region.

The casualties of the bombardment by the planes are not yet known

Mid this month, Al-Shabab overran AMISOM military base where the group said to have killed over 50 soldiers and captured 12 others.

The Kenyan government, which usually carries out airstrikes in retaliation to Al-Shabab attacks, has not yet issued a statement concerning the latest strikes.

Residents have reported similar strikes hitting livestock in the region.

Kenya contributed more than 4,000 troops to the 22,000-strong AU force that is in Somalia helping the UN-backed government battle Al-Shabab, which is part of Al-Qaeda.

Al-Shabab was ousted from the capital, Mogadishu, in August 2011, but still has a presence in large areas of southern Somalia and often stages attacks across the country.
