Kenyan teacher rescued in SNA/KDF operation

A Kenya teacher who had been kidnapped by suspected Al-Shabaab militants was this morning rescued in a daring joint operation between the Somali National Army and the Kenya Defence Forces in Shaba-Difu, 15 kilometres inside Somalia.

One of the abductors was killed during the operation while four others escaped and the military sources said they are in hot pursuit of the four.

Judy Mbugua was kidnapped on Monday while driving between Hagadera and Daadab camp after being ambushed before the abductors put her in another car leaving her car in the bush.

A spokesman for the Kenya Defence Forces Colonel D O Obonyo said Mbugua was being treated in an undisclosed location.

“Ms Mutua is currently receiving treatment at a secured location and will be airlifted by the Kenya Air Force to Nairobi in the course of the day”, Colonel D O Obonyo in a statement to media Friday.

“The lady has gone through a lot of traumatising experience and she has to undergo some medical check-up before being brought to Garissa,” North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh.
