Liyu Police kidnap two Somali women, MP says

Two Somali women were allegedly abducted by Liyu Police after the forces crossed Ethiopian border into the neighboring country Somalia, a lawmaker said on Wednesday.

Abdi Hassan Elmi who is a member of Galmudug Assembly told Goobjoog News that Liyu Police of Ethiopian Somali region raided villages in Galmudug state and kidnapped two villagers.

“It is unacceptable what the Liyu police did, it can create insecurity and flare up clashes.”said Elmi.

The U.S. financed para-military force known as the Liyu police are often accused of committing brutal actions against the Somali people who live in eastern regions in Ethiopian.

Last year, the forces killed several people in village in Gashamo town, which is located 220 kilometers (136 miles) from the border.

Sources said clan militias backed by members of the Liyu police, an Ethiopian paramilitary unit operating in Ethiopia’s ethnic Somali region have killed civilians and hundreds others from their homes.
