Traditional elders in Sool region say hundreds of local people have been displaced due to impending battle Puntland and Somaliland.

Speaking to Goobjoog News, a local traditional elder in Tukaraq location Abdi Warsame Mohamud gave a grave description on the displacement of the local residents who left the area in large numbers.

“Tonight I am in the location of Tukaraq. Local people and the nomads who converged into the location after losing all their livestock in the drought have now left and built tents in the open sandy fields on the outskirts. They were besieged by military forces from Somaliland who bombarded them with motor shells. They terrorized the residents who are vulnerable and weak” said Elder Mohamud.

The locals fleeing from Tukaraq locations are allegedly fearing for their lives in order not to be caught in the cross fire as a result of heightened tension of possible military confrontation between the two neigbours once again.

A week ago Somaliland forces attacked the area overrunning Puntland forces forcing the latter to retreat entirely leading to heated exchange of words between the top leaders of the two regions through the local media .

Somaliland military incursion coincided with the first day of the official visit of Somali federal president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo in Puntland State a week ago.
