Lower House elections commence in Mogadishu

Elections for members of parliament from the Banaadiri community located in the capital Mogadishu starts today, the federal electoral body FIEIT has announced.

Banaadiri clan will be filling at least 2 out of the 7 seats allocated to it in the House of the People.

Somalia’s capital city will be hosting elections for the seats allocated for Benadiri clans and 46 seats allocated for other clans hailing Somaliland.

Meanwhile, the newly elected members of the Upper and Lower chambers of parliament will start collecting their certificates from FIEIT on 30 November 2016, according to the FIEIT chairman.

Although, FIEIT did not give a specific date for the start of the Somaliland elections, the FIEIT chairperson said delegates for 34 seats out the 46 seats allocated to Somaliland in the Lower House, had already arrived in Mogadishu.
