Matabaan: IDPs face desperate humanitarian conditions

A large number of people displaced by the conflict between the moderate Islamist group, Ahlu-Sunna Waljama’a and Somali government forces in Guri-El town of Galgaduud region are staying in Matabaan town in hand to mouth livelihood and many require urgent shelter, food and health according to the administration of Matabaan district.

Mohamed Hassan Abdi, Matabaan district commissioner, speaking to Goobjoog FM noted that evacuees are faced with acute shortage of water with no essential subsistence like food, shelter and medicine.

He called federal government of Somalia and the humanitarian aid agencies to deliver emergency support and save the lives of the displace people before the situation becomes tragic.
