COVID-19 cases reaches 835 in Somalia

Ministry of Health of the federal government announced 79 new COVID-19 in which 38 cases found in Benadir Region, 22 cases were diagnosed in Jubbaland, 11 cases were reported in South West state and 8 in Puntland regional state while 38 have died in the whole country.

Apart from Banadir region, the second-largest number reported in Jubaland, Hirshabelle, Puntland, Southwest and Galmudug regional states have no testing capacity leading lack of Isolation and treatment facilities.

The slowdown in business activity has hurt daily-wage earners, casual workers and their families. the prices of key imported commodities have risen due to lockdown of essential supply markets, closure of borders and restrictions on domestic movements.

Since the disease reported in the country, The UN agencies for  Country Preparedness and Response Plan (CPRP) on 23 April requested over $698 million and provide a six-to-nine-month framework for humanitarian and development agencies to adapt their programmes to the changing context as well as scale-up interventions to mitigate the impact of COVID-19.
