Somalia’s capital Mogadishu is under security lockdown this morning ahead of the scheduled arrival of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki

Thousands of Mogadishu residents are forced to walk long distances as private and public vehicles were stopped from using several roads in the city

The roads blocked include Maka al Mukarama, Sayidka, KM4 junction, Zoppe and the Airport Road, industrial road, Wadnaha, 30th road and more others.

The closure of these roads has had its worst effect on students and workers going to schools and business that are miles away from their residents.

Meanwhile, there are unformed confirmed reports claiming that Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre is expected to appoint his cabinet ministers in the forthcoming hours after he had inclusive consultation with the president, politicians, and other parties of the other society.

It is not clear whether the lockdown is related to both the arrival of the AU chairperson and the appointment of the cabinet.

Al-Shabaab, which once rule most of Somalia regularly launches attacks in Mogadishu but its area of control has been increasingly reduced to smaller pockets of countryside.
