South West state presidential candidate and former Al-Shabaab number two Mukhtar Robow has been arrested by Ethiopian forces amid heavy fighting in the capital Baidoa.

Goobjoog News correspondent in the town reports the former Al-Shabaab leader was seized by Ethiopian forces based in the southwestern capital after intense fighting around the presidential palace.

Robow allied militias are in heavy exchange of fire with Ethiopia and Somali forces, our correspondent says.

It was not immediately clear if the Ethiopia forces are the ones under Amisom command. Amisom could not be reached for comment.  Telecommunication lines to and from the city are currently down.
