Nawal3 To Dock At Mukala To Evacuate Somalis

Nawal 3 is expected to dock at Mukalla port to evacuate Somalis stranded in Yemen.

Goobjoog news reporter, Mohamed Salat who is on board says that over 1000 people who have previously registered with the registration committee, are at the port, waiting for evacuation.

On 13th June this year, Nawal3 has ferried over 2500 Somalis fled from Yemen which become home for ferocious fighting between the internationally recognized government and the Houthis, who have taken control of large swaths of Yemen.

It was 25th May, when Abdi Ali Farah, a well-known Somali businessman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Jubba General Trading Company has pledged to dispatch a cargo ship which intended to ferry Somalis from Yemen.

Speaking to Goobjoog News Farah said that he decided to help brotherly Somalis who were captivated by Yemen violence which cost hundreds of innocent lives.

The brawl claimed thousands of lives and displaced hundreds of thousands including Yemenis and Somali refugees who escaped the conflict and hardships in their country before civil war eruption in Yemen.

Since 1st April, 6789 of Somali refugees returned home by themselves with small boats as this ship marks the first ship loaded with Somalis to reach Somalia’s waters.

They accused the government of ‘’failing’’ to intervene the situation of the trapped citizens.

Life went from bad to worse for the Somalis living in Yemen after the federal government revealed that it is supporting the on-going Saudi-led military offensive against the Houthi rebels who are fighting to take over internationally recognized government.

Pledges

Somali government promised to dispatch ships and planes for the evacuation of Somalis caught in Yemen’s conflict.

On 27th April, Director of the Parliament Mohamed Iyow told Goobjoog that the parliament has approved to send two ships to evacuate Somalis in Yemen.

While other foreign nationals have been evacuated from the impoverished gulf nation, the federal government has not yet moved to evacuate its citizens despite announcing plans to bring back them home.

Radio Goobjoog has launched a campaign “Gurmad and Gargaar” on 23rd April, which is community self-help events and intended to encourage Somali people to help Somali refugees in Yemen and Kenya and it will run 90 consecutive days.

The administration of Goobjoog News has voluntarily undertaken initiatives to create awareness on the situation of Somali refugees in both Yemen and Kenya.
