NISA forces recapture two localities from AL-Shabab fighters

Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) battled Al-Shabab fighters in Mareeray and Sabiib localities, Somali official says.

The fighting that erupted wee hours of Sunday night has caused many causalities of both sides as residents in the area confirmed.

Governor Lower Shabelle region, Abdikadir Sidii said that the NISA forces attacked two localities that Al-Shabab siezed  yesterday and prompted long hours of fighting.

“NISA soldiers have recovered two towns from Al-Shabab fighters, the troops killed number of fighters ” he said.

Meanwhile the spokesman of interior ministry Mohamed Yussuf said that NISA soldiers carried out operations to annihilate Al-Shabab fighters from areas in Lower Shabelle region.

“The Anti-Peace Group Al-Shabab fighters have yesterday attacked Mareeray and Sabiib localities at once but our soldiers in those areas resisted and we reinforced many soldiers to areas which made possible to drive away the fighters. The soldiers will move ahead to remaining areas” Yussuf said.

The fighting to sieze the villages has reportedly caused unspecified number of casualties.

Al-Shabab did not comment on the fighting and attempts reach the group bored no fruit.

Somali government forces backed African union troops have been carrying out operations to recover Area Al-Shabab fighters in Hiran, Bakol and Gedo, Lower Shabelle regions.

Meanwhile Al-Shabab fighters who want to depose the federal government as well regional states have stepped up their attacks against the administrations across the country.

Al-Shabab has carried out several deadly attacks on Government institutions, army camps and hotels, on Saturday the group has conducted two separate suicide car attacks in Somalia, one in Mogadishu and another at a military training base in the southern port city of Kismayu that claimed lives of more than thirty people.
