Ocean Stars drown the Hippos in historic march to CECAFA U17 finals

Lead striker Farhan Mohamed Ahmed delivered a much awaited score for the Ocean Stars at the 60th minute Wednesday to comfortably secure a slot for the Somali team in the CECAFA under 17 finals slated for Sunday.

The historic win was also cemented by the Ocean Stars goalkeeper who fended off a penalty kick at the 44th minute.

The youngsters who battled their way up the ladder humiliated soccer powerhouses in the region and will now face off with Tanzania this Sunday.

Somali Footbal Federation president Abdiqani Said Arab lauded the boys for the win terming it historic.

“I would like to thank the boys for their high profile performance. We have been able to produce these talented boys with the help from FIFA who financed our domestic youth league since 2016,” Arab said.

The president also praised the coaches who have spent much time and energy in training the boys. “Our coaches have done well” the president said.

President Mohamed Farmaajo also led the country in heaping praise at the Ocean Stars for their sterling performance.
