OIC welcomes Djibouti’s summit between presidents of Somalia, Somaliland

The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the dialogue between the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the President of Somaliland on June 14-15, 2020 in Djibouti.

The OIC also supported the initiative taken by Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti who hosted this consultative summit between the two leaders to resume and unite the Somali community and its leaders.

The General Secretariat praised this initiative, which resulted in the agreement between the two sides agreed to form a joint technical committee to prepare for resuming negotiations and following up on outstanding issues to end the argument of the two parties, in addition, to promote peace in the region.

The president wished the technical committee to work for the best of their knowledge and the best of the Somali society to live together.

Somaliland declared self-independent state after the government of former Siiyad Bare’s fail in 1991, but still, the international community recognised as to be an autonomous region of Somalia.
