US military trucks manufacturer to sell vehicles to Somalia

A US based military vehicles manufacturer Oshkosh Defense Company is set to sell military vehicles to Somalia following receipt of more than one third of a billion dollars foreign sales contract, the US Department of State has announced.

The sale which involves 1,5000 combat vehicles will also see Cameroon and Iraq delivered with the military vehicles.

“Oshkosh Defense [of] Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was awarded a $378.1 million… foreign military sales contract for procurement of 1,543 family of medium tactical vehicles,” the announced stated on Friday.

Work will be performed in Oshkosh with an estimated completion date of July 31, 2018, the Defense Department said.

In 2015, Oshkosh defeated Lockheed Martin in a race to win a $6.75 billion Defense Department contract to replace the US armed forces aging fleet of Humvee vehicles.

In its website, the company notes it delivers leading-edge tactical wheeled vehicles and life cycle sustainment services to military and security forces around the globe.

“For nearly 100 years, Oshkosh has designed, tested and manufactured a robust portfolio of heavy, medium, light and highly protected military vehicles and technologies to support the U.S. Armed Forces and its allies,” reads a statement from its website.
