Over 27,000 form four candidates sit for exams today

Government attributes increase in number of candidates to stability in most parts of the country

Over 27,000 form four candidates are today sitting for their final exams in 120 centres countrywide.

Prime Minister Hassan Khaire launched the start of the exams at 15 May School in Mogadishu.

State Minister for Education Abdirahman Jibril said the number of candidates had increased owing to stability being realized in most parts of the country.

“We have many students sitting for exams this year than in the previous years because we have liberated many areas which are now under government control,” Jibril said.

The number of candidates has gradually increased since the first government administered exams started in 2015. A total of 23,000 students for exams in 2017 up from 7,000 in 2015. The number jumped to 27,600 this year.

The minister also noted students affected by the floods mainly in Beletweyne will sit for the exams at a later date as the ministry works on modalities to secure safe centres for them.

The exams will run for five days.
