Parliament clarifies president’s impeachment motion

The deputy speaker of Parliament has for the first time spoken about the status of anti president motion lodged in the parliament by some 93 MPs on 12th of August.

“People need to understand that the motion is not on the official parliament agenda, its resting in our offices, there are processes to be followed, the high court should rule the legality and the basis of this motion before we can proceed to be put into vote or tabled” said Mahad Abdalla Cawad, deputy speaker of parliament.

The 9 member bench of judges from the high court, including 4 members to be appointed by the government should rule on the constitutionality of the motion.

To impeach the president, it needs two thirds of the parliament to vote in favor.
