PM Khyre to travel to Garowe town of Puntland

Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheire is today travelling to Garowe town of Puntland administration.

The Puntland administration has deployed hundreds of soldiers to tighten the security of the town.

The people of Garowe town are in preparations from yesterday to welcome the Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre.

Sources from the PM’s office indicate the PM will be visiting various towns in the state and will also be expected to attend the 20th-anniversary celebrations of Puntland state.

Puntland state came into being in 1998 making it the oldest regional administration in Somalia. Presidential elections in the Puntland will take place later in the year.

Puntland has had long-standing border disputes with Somaliland particularly over Sool and Sanaag regions that separate them.

Somaliland in the northwest declared independence from the rest of Somalia in 1991 but has since failed to win international recognition.
