Police nab suicide bomber in Mogadishu market

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGDISHU: Security forces in Mogadishu foiled a suspected attack at a police station in downtown Mogadishu Tuesday following a tip-off from members of the public.

According to a statement from the office of the police spokesman, a suicide bomber who attempted to attack the police station in Hamarweyne was arrested as he attempted to execute the attack.

The attacker however threw the suicide vest into a police station but there was no immediate information on possible casualties. A heavy explosion was heard from the busy Hamarweyne market shortly before mid-day.

According to the police, the station which is located near Hamarweyne mall was on high alert after it received a tip-off from the public of the attack.

The police arrested the attacker as he attempted to ran away after throwing the vest in the direction of the station, police said.
