Police seize over 200 military uniforms allegedly destined to Al-Shabaab

Galmudug police seized 250 military uniforms in a variety of camouflage styles that the authorities say were headed for Al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia.

The uniforms were found in three bundles that were intercepted at police check in Galkaayo town.

A statement from Galmudug State read: “The containers which carried the military uniforms were declared as second-hand clothes so as to not raise suspicions and be able to pass different customs inspections without any difficulty.”

According to the statement, the uniforms were imported from Puntland and an investigation was underway to see where they came from initially.

Galmudug deputy president, Mohamed Hashi Abdi has commended the police for marvelous job they did and urged them to carry on the maintaining of law and order in the region.

Al-Shabaab fighters in SNA uniform clad several times attacked military bases and government institution.

Al-Shabaab, which maintains a military presence largely in rural areas, has stepped up attacks on military bases across large parts of south and central Somalia.
