President Farmajo and Japan’s PM Shinzo Abe agree on maritime security

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have agreed that the two countries will continue working together in maritime security.

Abe has praised Somalia’s effort toward regional peace and security, including its fight against terrorism and anti-piracy measures in the Gulf of Aden and pledged Tokyo’s support.

The Somali President expressed gratitude for Japan’s support as Japan’s Self-Defense Forces are currently on a counter-piracy mission off Somalia.

President Farmajo was in Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) that was concluded in Yokohama on Friday.
