PRESS RELEASE: AMISOM condemns suicide attack in the outskirts of Mogadishu

Mogadishu, 9th September 2014– The Acting Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia condemned the twin vehicle-borne suicide attack around Lafoole and Elesha Biyaha in the outskirts of the Somali capital Mogadishu which claimed the life of 16 innocent civilians and wounded many more in the latest callous attacks by Al-Shabaab.

“AMISOM condemns today’s suicide attacks in the strongest terms possible and wishes to send its sincere condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones in the attacks and wishes the wounded a quick recovery” said the acting SRCC Hon. Wanyoto adding that “al-Shabaab has declared war on civilians by explicitly targeting unarmed people and we wish to inform the public, these terrorists will fail as they have failed before.”

Somali National Army and AMISOM peacekeepers are fighting side by side in the ongoing Operation and have already jointly liberated 4 key towns in Bakool, Hiiran and Lower Shabelle region in an operation to weed out Al Shabaab from their last hideouts.
