Gaas apologises to South West over Al-Shabaab remarks

Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas has tendered his apology to the people of South West state following last week’s remarks in which he linked her inhabitants to the militant group Al-Shabaab.

“The Puntland Government declares to the people of southwestern Somalia that Puntland and South-West are allied in the fight against their enemies Al-Shabaab and the President’s statement was all about targeting the enemy of Puntland and Southwestern Somalia,” a statement from Puntland presidency read in part.

The government of Puntland is fully apologizing to the government and the people of the southwestern state of Somalia in the statement added.

President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas, who spoke in Badhan in Sanaag Region last week said, “It’s impossible for a boy from Hudur, Diinsoor and Buurhakaba to control us in our regions’ referring to regions under South West state.

The Puntland Government added that it is time for the Somali people to focus on the unity of the people of Somalia.
