Storyline:National News

Three Federal Member States have appointed members to the technical committee formed by FGS and FMS leaders last week to draft electoral options ahead of another meeting mid next month.

HirShabelle, Jubbaland and Puntland announced Saturday the appointment of two members each to the technical committee while the Federal Government, Galmudug and South West states are yet to appoint theirs.

From Puntland, Interior Minister Mohamed Abdirahman Dhaban’ad and Abdiwali Ali Abdulle, the deputy general in the office of the president will join the committee. Jubbaland president Ahmed Madobe on the other hand appointed Hersi Jama, the State minister of presidency and the Chairperson of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Hamze Abdi Barre.

HirShabelle state will be represented by Interior Minister Mohamed Adle and Abdul Farah.

The committee is expected to work out viable electoral models to be used in the upcoming elections after the electoral commission NIEC ruled out elections this year under the one-person-one-vote option.

The Federal Government and Federal Member States leaders will be reconvening in Dhusamareb from August 16 to deliberate on the proposals and adopt a preferred electoral model.
