Somali Cleric Association calls for prayers for rain across Somalia

The chairperson of Somali cleric Association, Sheikh Ahmed Salaad has called on Somalis to perform Rain-seeking prayers throughout the towns in the country in line with the tradition of the Prophet (Peace be upon him).

“I hereby to inform all Somali people to come out for the seek Allah and perform Rain-seeking prayers on Wednesday”   said Salaad.

He added “We hope all able individuals shall join the rain-seeking prayer, following in the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him,”
The Prophet used to perform “Istisqa” (rain-seeking) prayers in case of drought or a delay in rainfall.

This comes barely four days after Somalia’s government declared the drought a national disaster.

The United Nations estimates 5 million people in this Horn of Africa nation need aid, amid warnings of a full-blown famine.

Some 320,000 children under age 5 are acutely malnourished, and 50,000 of them are so severely malnourished they risk dying without emergency intervention.

Thousands have been streaming into Mogadishu in search of food, overwhelming aid agencies.
