Puntland president sacks top police commanders following commission recommendations

Puntland state president Abdiwali Mohammad Ali Gas has sacked police commandant and reservist police commandant following recommendation from a presidential taskforce.

The commander of Puntland police forces Abdirizaq Mohmoud Yusuf (Afgudud) and the commander of police reservist in the state Osman Hassan Owke (Afdallow) were officially removed from their posts through a presidential decree Sunday.

The two commanders were relieved of their duties after investigations by a commission appointed by Puntland president recommended their removal. The commission cited acrimony with police officers and poor work conduct as the main reasons for their sacking.

Puntland security minister Abdi Hirsi Ali (Qarjab) and several other people were wounded on the 5th of this month  in exchange of fire by bodyguards of the two police commanders during  a security meeting in Bosaso.

The two commanders were among the most experienced police commanders in the state having worked in similar positions since the foundation of the state 1998.
