Storyline:National News

Puntland Administration warned its residents to be alert for cholera outbreak in the State citing the endemic harshness of the disease in the nearby Somaliland territory.

Speaking to the media, the Minister of Health of Puntland Abdinasir Osman Isse said the disease has been reported in some areas of Puntland and expressed fear to spread it to the rest of the region.

The Minister said the disease is spread by infected people from Burao town in Somaliland as well as people from their side crossing over to the town.

According to the Health Minister, doctors have seen human stool mixed with blood which signals the malignity of the disease compared to the one with dehydration effects only.

“The medical cases of the disease is found in few places but  it is a real danger of its kind because it is coming from Burao town and every day its visited by people who consume meals at restaurants located there” said Minister Osman.

There is a general scary mood for cholera disease to spread quickly in Puntland region even though it has not become a prevalent medical problem so far.

Local doctors appealed to the population to exercise public hygiene to be on the safe side.
