The National Committee on Reconciliation (NCR) has called for an end to the conflict in Herale in Galgadud which has now claimed at least 20 lives.

NCR chairperson Ismail Ma’alin Muse Sunday appealed to both sides in the conflict to refrain from further acts which could lead to more bloodshed. “We appeal for the cessation of hostilities and advise all clans fighting in the country to hold peace,” said Muse.

Up to 20 people are reported to have been killed in the past week following clashes pitying the moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama’ah and Galmudug state security forces. The situation had calmed days ago but fresh clashes flared up later in the week.

Ahlusuna which maintained its stance against the Galmudug state administration has been at loggerheads with the state government over control of certain parts of the state. Newly elected president of Galmudug Ahmed Du’alle Geelle Haaf appealed to the group to join his administration in forming an inclusive administration but the group is yet to heed to his call.

Leaders from the area have also called for end to hostilities.
