At least 15 residences were destroyed in Hinlabi locality following the heavy rains hit the area for more than 24 hours, says resident.
“15 houses were swept away after water levels rose in the town,” Shariif Hassan Ahmed, a resident of Hinlabi said.
Hundreds of people have been displaced in the town as floodwaters continue to submerge houses and destroy crops.
“Our crops have been destroyed and we have also lost livestock” Shariif stated.
The heavy rainfall comes a time when much higher than normal rains in the last third of 2015, resulting from the El Niño climate phenomenon are expected to rain according to UN.
