Residents flee KM50 in fear of new fighting

Hundreds of families have fled their homes in KM50 village of Lower Shabelle fearing fighting between Somali forces backed AMISOM troops and Al-Shabaab fighters.

Commercial activity has been disrupted and hundreds of students have been affected as schools remain closed.

Reports coming from areas near the battlefield say that the forces from sides were spoiling for another fight.

A resident, Mohamed Farah said that there is high tension in the area which forced many people to flee from KM50 locality as fighting can flare up at any time.

“People emptied the town. They were shifting the whole of last night. The tension is high, the two sides are getting reinforcement” he said.

Al-Shabaab fighters have attacked several villages in lower Shabelle region in the past one week.

Somali government officials accused the terror group, Al-Shabaab of being behind the abduction of over 25 people local resident in the region.
