Security meeting was held in Mogadishu following Mogadishu and Baidoa attacks

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud last night chaired the national security commitee meeting at state house in Mogadishu following several deadly attacks in Mogadishu and Baidoa towns.

The meeting brought  together all heads of security officials in the country including Minister of Defence , Internal Security as well as top police chiefs and other key Security organs to discuss security in the country.

Among the agenda of the meeting was deadly attacks carried out for last two days by Al-shabaab in Mogadishu and Baidoa which claimed lives of over 50 people mostly civilians.

Addressing the meeting , the President told the security officials that security is the paramount in his government and urged the officials to give full attention in order to achieve government ambitions.

Mohamed Abdi Hayir Maareye, the minister of information who spoke to the media after the meeting said they have collectively agreed on conducting security crackdowns to annihilate Alshabaab members to rescue the lives of the Somali people.

Al-Shabaab often carries out such suicide attacks in the capital and elsewhere in its bid to topple Somalia’s Western- backed government. The group wants to impose its strict version of Islamic rule in the Horn of Africa nation.
