The Senate has today announced its business committees made up of 48 senators with each committee composed of either five or six members.

The Constitutional Review and Federalism committee will jointly work with its equal from the Lower House in steering the constitutional review process.

Meanwhile the National Independent Electoral Commission presented its quarterly report to the Senate outlining among others key recommendations and challenges as it prepares for the expected one person one vote in 2020.

The Halima Yare led commission called on parliament to fast track all electoral related legislation and abolition of any other unconstitutional body tasked with conducting any elections. The NIEC did not participate in the 2016/2017 but instead a politically constituted body, the Federal Indirect Electoral Implementation Team conducted the exercise.

The NIEC has also asked for support from the government and all institutions to ensure the commission achieves its objectives.
