SNA and AMISOM troops overrun Al-Shabab military bases

SNA soldiers backed by African Union peace-keeping in Somalia (AMISOM) troops have overran several Al-Shabab several military bases in Hiraan Region, AMISOM official says.
Somali military supported by AMISOM has been engaging gun battle with Al-Shabab fighters for the last few days in rocky terrain of Hiraan that left heavy casualties from both sides.
Araytumm Muhammad, one of the commanders of Djiboutian contingent of AMISOM troops headquartered in Baledwein has told Goobjoog News that their soldiers collaborating with Somali National Army have driven away Al-Shabab fighters from several localities on the outskirt of Baledwein town.
“We attacked Al-Shabab training camps and our raids caused a lot of damage to the militants including destroying of technical vehicles and death of many fighters. We even killed some of the group’s ring leaders in those camps” he said.
On Thursday, Ethiopian war planes have conducted air raids in several areas located outskirt of Baladwein town.
SNA commanders in Hiraan region have confirmed to Goobjoog news that Al-Shabab controlled areas have been targeted with bombardments leaving heavy causalities.
Tension has been high for the last three days after government forces stepped up their military movements and advanced to several areas controlled by Al-Shabab fighters in Hiraan region.
Al-Shabab has not issued any comments about the development. The group has met major setbacks in the last few months as they lost a number of major towns which have served as supply routes and sources of revenue.
AMISOM and Somali National Army are preparing to improve the security of the region amid preparations for the upcoming state formation conference for Hiran and Middle Shebelle.
