Soldiers from Somalia National Army (SNA) alongside the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have killed four Al-Shabaab fighters in fighting in southern Somalia, local officials said Sunday.

Diinsoor district deputy commissioner, Abshir Moalim Shariif said the fighting took place in Rahoole village in the outskirts of Diinsoor town, Bakool region on Sunday, in which several other fighters sustained serious injuries.

“We killed four Al-Shabaab fighters while one government soldier was injured. We are now in full control of the area,” the Commissioner told Goobjoog News.

Shariif said the forces were determined to “wipe out” Al-Shabaab, and prevent them (Al-Shabaab) from carrying out attacks.

There was no immediate comment from Al-Shabaab, that has been battling the Somali government for a decade.

The joint forces have stepped up operations across the Horn of Africa nation against Al-Shabaab to secure ongoing elections.
