SNA colonel killed in Mogadishu

Unidentified men armed with pistols have gunned down on Monday evening SNA colonel in Mogadishu, the latest in a string of assassinations of the government officials in the country.

Eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity said two young men with pistols have attacked the officer identified as Omar Faray and killed him near his residence near Mohamud Ahmed Ali School  of Mogadishu’s Yaqshiid district.

The security forces reached the area and launched an operation to pursue the peratrators.

No arrests have been made so far by the security forces.

No group has claimed the responsibility of the incident but Al-Shabaab assassin squad frequently target government employees and local government workers in Mogadishu.

Over 20 people were killed on Monday  in suicide bombing near Mogadishu’s airport.

The assault, the latest in a series by the Islamist group targeting hotels and restaurants, began when a suicide bomber detonated a car laden with explosives outside the Peace Hotel.

Al-Shabaab lost their foothold in the capital in 2011 but continue their battle to overthrow the Somali government and launch regular attacks on military, government and civilian targets like hotels and restaurants in Mogadishu and elsewhere.
