SNA forces with AMISOM conduct a military operation in Hiiran region, Somalia

Somalia National Army (SNA) backed by AMISOM is today conducting a joint military operation to flush out Al-Shabaab militants in Hiiran region of central Somalia.

Government forces in recent days have been conducting house to house operations against Al-Shabaab in some parts of the region and have seized several areas in the region from the Al-Shabaab group.

General James Saleh, the force commander in the 27th Division told the media that the areas they have seized over the Al-Shabaab are safe and secure under the control of the Somalia National Army and the African Union forces.

He added that they will continue to increase the security operations in all parts of the region to flush out the Al-Shabaab.

“The Security situation of the region is currently better and the security operations are still underway to bring peace and stability in Hiiran region,” said General Salah.

The Somali National Army, with the support of AMISOM, has been conducting large-scale operations in Hiran region in the last two days.

Al-Shabab group has several bases in the area, where it often arranges attacks against the military bases belonging to Somali and foreign forces in the region.
