Somali Federal Cabinet Takes a Meeting on Marine Dispute with Kenya

MareeyeCabinet members, cabinet advisors and lawyers featured at the meeting; Marine dispute between Kenya and Somalia dominated the single agenda tough meeting.

The cabinet started the meeting by listening reports and technical details from the lawyers of the case and then made deliberations on the best way to approach the dispute between the two countries, that is now under table of International Court of Justice in Netherlands, Hague.

Somali information Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir “ Mareye” talking to the media said the Federal Government still sticks on its guns, dismissing the recent media reports that Somalia is planning to withdraw its legal proceedings against Kenya with regard to a dispute concerning maritime delimitation in the Indian Ocean with Kenya.

Somalia instituted proceedings against Kenya 28 August 2014 after diplomatic efforts to settle the case outside international law failed.
