Somali government and UNHCR hold talks about Somali refugees in Kenya

Somali  president Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud has received today a high UNHCR delegation at Villa Somalia led by Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees

Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and Somali president focused on what would be next for 600,000 Somali refugees in Kenya, after Kenya made a decision to close down refugees camps before the end of this year.

The two parties underscored that any repatriation attempt should go along with international refugee laws .

“Somalia thanks to UNHCH for its help to Somali refugees in the world. We ask UNCHR and the international community to give hand in the repatriation process of Somali refugees” said Somali president.

In his side Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees said they are delighted to have talks with somali leadership “Somalia has special significance to UNHCR. In the 70s somali hosts many refugees from neighboring countries. The repatriation of the refugees will be good for  both sides” said Fillip Grand.
