One Al-Shabaab suspect accused of being behind the October 14 truck bombing which claimed over 500 lives was sentenced to death Tuesday by a military court in Mogadishu while two other were handed jail terms.

A courts martial in Mogadishu sentenced Hassan Isak Ali, the driver of one of the vehicles used in the attack to death while another suspect Ali Ibrahim Absuge was handed a lifetime in jail in absentia.

The third suspect, Abdiweli Ahmed Diriye was sentenced to three years in jail while two others, Mohamud Hassan Roble and Abdul Ali Warsame Ali were released by the court after they were not found guilty of charged preferred by the prosecution.

A government report last November indicated that 512 people were killed in the truck bombing which also injured hundreds of others.
