Gender bill in conformity with Islamic teachings, Minister says

Somali minister for women affairs, Sahro Mohamed Ali Samatar has refuted reports the newly submitted gender bill  is partially against Islam.

Samatar said the bill submitted by her ministry has been discussed well before it delivered to the cabinet.

“We made discussions over it and there is no single article which is controversial to Islam,” said.

The move came after Somali cleric Association lashed out the billed saying the bill is partially against Islam and could not be accepted in Somalia.

Somali cabinet invited the chairman of Somali religious council Sheikh Bashir Ahmed at the weekly cabinet meeting held at the PM’s office on Thursday, where he was convinced.
